We’re Going to the Lake!

We are FINALLY heading down to the Lake this weekend to hang out with Krissy and Kenny. This trip has been in the works since April. We were going to be their first visitors but that didn’t happen, then we were going to be their second visitors, and that didn’t happen, so on and so on. Now, we are probably their umpteenth visitors (I’m sure that they are sick of people visiting) and we are VERY excited! We get to see their new house and take a spin out on their new boat. It’s going to be great, just a relaxing weekend. It has been forever since we have spent a significant amount of time with them and St. Louis has been very lonely without them.

My Bosses F**king Rock!

About three weeks ago, my boss asked if I was going to be here on October 5th because he wanted to schedule a meeting. I said that I was and then quickly forgot about it, it was two months away. I figured that I would ask him about it in September what it was all about. Well, today at lunch, he asked us if we remembered the meeting in October. When we nodded, he said, “Head Boss and I are sending you girls to Vegas.” WHAT!?!?!? Apparently, it’s a thank you from them to us! That means we are taking a three-day weekend on the company dime to fly and stay at the Mandalay Bay (we each have our own rooms)! So many exclamations points! Can’t you tell that I’m excited! I have never been to Sin City and Donna and Angie are so stoked to show me around. Donna loves Vegas and she’s already got the itinerary on what to do while there. It’s too bad Bob is not allowed to go, but I’ll try to have a good time without him. Tee-hee! AHHHHHH! Vegas, baby, Vegas!

Kala Came to Visit!

Kala came over to hang out with us this past weekend while her parents went up to Chicago to see friends and watch a Cards-Cubs game (so jealous). As usual, we ended up spoiling her rotten because, really, how can you resist that face when she puts her head on your knee and looks up at you with nothing but the “I just want to be loved” look. She got to sleep in bed with us, snuggle on the couch, got people food, received massive amounts of belly rubs and anything else she wanted. We spoiled Kuma as well, she was not neglected. She got everything that Kala got, and then some extra attention when Kala left because she had to share for four days. And you know how hard it is to share when you’re an only dog.

Doesn’t it seem like there are way too many blankets on the bed for summer?

The only thing about Kala is that she will bark at any little noise she hears, day or night. There have been moments when she’s laying down, away from any windows or doors and all of a sudden, she’ll start barking. And it ends up that there was a person walking his dog down the street. It’s like she has a sixth sense. I’m sure she barks when she hears spiders scuttling along the walls. Her barking is so random that it will scare Kuma that she’ll plod into another room just to get back to sleep. Kala – great guard dog, Kuma – not so great guard dog.

Christine is Engaged!

Congratulations, Christine and Brad! You are a brave man to willingly tie yourself to her (you know I love you dearly, Christine)! Now, it’s time for the wedding planning and I’m pushing for a destination wedding in Cabo – for selfish reasons, of course! Remember when planning a wedding, don’t forget to step back and take a breath. And even though I’m here in St. Louis, you can always call me! We love you both!

The Shangri-la Diner

Whenever Kate comes into town, it’s a perfect opportunity for us to try a new restaurant with a large selection of vegetarian items. This time, we decided to try the Shangri-La Diner over on Cherokee Street. When you walk into the place, you are instantly assaulted by bright colors and an assortment of kitschy objects. It’s definitely not the traditional diner you are used to but it’s awesome! We were served by a waitress with spiky hair dyed bright pink, wearing striped socks all the way up past her knees. Basically, it serves an alternative crowd, I mean, I felt a little weird walking in there in khakis, a T-shirt and a Coach purse, too conservative by their standards. The Shangri-La Diner is deemed vegetarian, you can even take it a step further by making some of the dishes vegan. I got the St. Louis Slinger, it was so filling I felt like I had to be rolled out the door. It was pretty good and not as greasy as I thought it would be (probably because there was no trans fat and it was vegan chili). Kate got the Creme Brulee French Toast, which tasted great, but a little too sweet for dinner for me. That would have been a great dessert, but she didn’t mind that at all and proceeded to eat every bit of it. Bob got the Slammin’ Salmon Plate, a breakfast dish and that was really good also. We all had chosen some yummy dishes and had a great time because it was someplace new and fun. Next time, we’ll have to do brunch there, I hear that’s really popular.
