The Heat is ON!

Woo-hoo! You will not find our bodies encased in ice because we have a new heater/AC unit! When I woke up this morning, it was 42 degrees in the house and when I came home this afternoon, it was 62 degrees! Major improvement. This means that Kuma can soon be rid of her hoodie, she’s been wearing it for two straight days.

I was honestly hoping the heater/AC unit would last until we sold the house and have the next homeowners deal with it but unfortunately, it did not have the same plans as me. Well, I guess there’s another selling point for the house.

I Don’t Like My Birthday Present

What a way to celebrate my birthday. I wake up in the middle of the night to cold air blowing on my face. Huh, that’s weird, so I woke up Bob to have him check it out. He comes crawling back in bed and tells me that the heater isn’t working. Great. That’s fun. This morning, as if not having heat is not enough on my day off, the power decides to go out for about 2 hours due to the gusty winds. So, no heat and no electricity. Wonderful. Well, at least we got the electricity back on. After having a heating guy come out to check out the heater, we got some bad, bad news. We need to replace our heating and A/C combo unit. Yep, that’s right, we need to fork over $5,000 to a new system. That’s it, I’m not celebrating my birthday anymore, I’ll have nothing to do with it.

And that’s why they make old ladies have car insurance.

So today, we got into a fender bender. Don’t worry, we’re all OK, and Kuma (who was with us) didn’t even notice, as we were going probably 12 mph at the time. Here’s the deal: We were making a left from Schuetz onto Westbound Page and we were in the right lane, which is a turn-or-straight lane. This old lady (and I mean old — this broad looked like the Crypt Keeper) was in the middle lane, which is left-turn only and decided to go straight, running right into me. Of course, she didn’t realize that the intersection had been altered probably 8 months ago; while a year ago, she could go straight from that lane, she was in a turn only lane.

When I got out to inspect the damage and trade insurance cards, she made it known that she thought I was at fault. I told her it would be a good idea to just call the police and get this all sorted out. You just can’t reason with old people. The police came and took our statements and the statement of a guy who stopped to give a witness account (He was correct in relaying what he saw, but he wasn’t exactly clear on how the intersection worked either. Still, it was cool that he stayed.) and got everything squared away. The cops found the old lady at fault and sent us on our way. Just another hassle in my life.
