Yesterday, as I was driving north on Woodson, I see, on my right, this big, fat white kid (I’m thinking late teens), running toward the street like a maniac. His arms were flying all around him and his feet were tripping over each other. I started to slow down because I didn’t know what he was going to do, he looked like he was going to dart in front of me. Well, it was a good thing too because the dumbass did start running across the street. I slammed on the brakes, laid on the horn, and saw the whites of his eyes as he stood in shock while I almost took out his kneecaps. He then proceeded to dash across the street. After cursing him, I went on my way. I happened to glance in the rearview mirror and see a woman running across Woodson behind me. I turn to my left and watched as she chased after the guy. Huh, that’s weird. Well, while I was talking to Pat (Kuma’s groomer) in her shop, four police cars sped by with their sirens on. Oh crap! I hustled out of there and lo and behold, the cop cars were all parked at the scene of the crime and the officers were surrounding a house on the corner. I turned into the shopping center and pulled up to the the officer who was interviewing the woman who chased the perpetrator and let him know what I had experienced. I apologized for not making more of an effort to hit him when he ran in front of me. Both thanked me for stopping and let me know that they knew where the little shit was. I hope he gets caught because he was THAT close to denting Mr. Squeakers.

Appetizer: Cheese Plate – The players are garlic jack, gorgonzola, parmesan, white cheddar spread, and pepper goat cheese. Who can say no to cheese? Cheeze, pleeze!

Entree: Gnocchi with Asparagus and Pancetta I’m a fan of asparagus and bacon so this dish went over well. Now, I’m thinking if gnocchi is too heavy for you, this would work with some other pasta. And Bob requests crushed red pepper the next time we make it.

Side Dish: Fruit Salad – It’s summer, you need summer fruit all mixed together very prettily.

Dessert: Chocolate Chip Angel Cupcakes My first attempt at an an angel food recipe and it wasn’t too bad. Next time I’ll have to fill the cupcake liners more in order to get the cupcake look.
You Know You’re At Northwest Plaza When…
A. You see three young men, handcuffed behind their backs, escorted off the premise by four burly police officers.
B. Macy’s doesn’t sell swimwear at that location.
C. You would rather drive around the mall instead of walking through it to get to the stores.
D. Dillards has now become the Clearance Center a.k.a. the place to send the shit that doesn’t sell.
That mall has become so terribly depressing. There is no reason to go there, absolutely none.

Appetizer: Baked Feta with Marinara The crushed red peppers give it a nice kick and I just sprayed butter-flavored cooking spray on the slices of French bread to toast them under the broiler. Very easy to make.

Entree: Spinach Fettuccine with Artichokes This was a light summery pasta with a fun green hue. It was a bit bland but that can be easily remedied with a myriad of spices I have up in the cabinet.

Side Dishes: Broiled Parmesan Tomatoes and Green Gobble-’Ems Garlic Bread Nice complementary dishes to go along with the pasta. The tomatoes tasted better than they looked and the garlic bread had a nice flavor to it.

Dessert: Marinated Fresh Berries over Frozen Yogurt A wonderful summer dessert that introduced me to vanilla frozen yogurt that I like. I love fresh berries!
Visiting the Lake House
This past weekend we took Krissy and Kenny’s “open house” offer and trekked down there for a visit. Yes, we like to say that we have a vacation house at the Lake even though it really is the Marcantels’ place. Eh, minor details. We got to get out on the Lake, go swimming (I passed on that, I’m a big baby about cold water), and check out some humongous homes (some were even for sale, anyone got $2 million handy?). I even got the chance to drive the boat through the Grand Glaize Arm and I was absolutely terrified. Here’s the thing, boats are coming from all over the place and there are no “lanes” for them to be in. So, it’s pretty much an anything goes type of situation. It wasn’t like I was driving with any speed, I was idling for goodness sakes, but still. Krissy did tell me that they don’t want to hit us as much as we don’t want to hit them so they’ll move out of the way and Kenny says to try and stay to the right of the boats. Once I got the hang of it, it was kind of fun but I won’t be driving the boat with any sort of speed anytime soon. It really is a lot of fun being out on the boat, just hanging out, eating, drinking and swimming.
Thanks for having us guys, you are such fantastic hosts and your landscaping is amazing!
