Supper Club: October 1, 2008

Now that the weather has turned cooler, do you know what that means? Comfort food!!! I love the fall and winter because you’re in the mood for the heavy foods that make you all warm and toasty.

Appetizer: Tomato and Mozzarella Tart. I love puff pastry and this tart was a definite yes. It was devoured in 5 minutes, poor Kate only had one piece. I think the rest of us had 10. You snooze, you lose.

Entree: Four Cheese Stuffed Shells with Smoky Marinara. It’s been a while since we’ve had pasta hence the entree choice. I couldn’t find crushed fire-roasted tomatoes so I used diced, which seemed to have worked out just fine. I even went a bit light on the spinach. Even though it was pasta and stuffed with cheese, I thought it was still a fairly light dish, I didn’t feel overly full after eating it. I’m not usually a fan of stuffed pastas because I think it’s too much cheese but I liked it. Just a note, this makes quite of lot of pasta.

Side Dish: Broccoli, Orange and Watercress Salad. Mmm, oranges. It’s only within the last couple of years that I’ve really enjoyed fruit in my salad and this was good one. It’s a simple salad, nothing fancy at all. The vinegar dressing gave the salad a little punch. When we were done with dinner, I just ate all orange slices out of it.

Dessert: Chocolate Chip Meringue Cookies. Super sweet and fluffy. I really liked the chocolate chips in the cookies, it’s like a little surprise for your tastebuds. Man, I think I had about 6 of those, they were good.
